Experience
My name is Sabine Becker-Weimann, and I am a professional tutor in math and science. I am committed to instill a deep understanding, outstanding skills as well as a high level of confidence in all of my students. Years of experience as a tutor and teacher as well as my background as a scientific researcher have contributed to how I guide my students to success.
I obtained my education in Germany, where I concluded my undergraduate and graduate studies with a PhD in Biophysics. I then worked as a researcher at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory for several years, where I created computational models to investigate breast cancer. As a scientist I used many strategies that I am now teaching: My students learn how to make sense of problems, how to use several different methods to solve these problems, how to find out whether solutions are reasonable, how to make and show conceptual connections, and how to present concepts clearly. |
When I decided to pursue my passion for teaching, I first taught math at a public middle school as well as a charter high school. I got to know different curricula, common core methods, and different teaching styles. However, the desire to become a more effective and individualized math and science instructor has led me to switch from being a classroom teacher to being an independent educator.
Most of my expertise stems from working as a full-time tutor for many years. I have the privilege and opportunity to work with students on a one-on-one basis which enables me to customize each lesson according to their strengths, needs, and personalities. I have successfully tutored students ranging from 5th grade to college, including high-achieving home-schooled students and students with special needs. Each of them has broadened my knowledge of common struggles and misconceptions that I can now anticipate in my lessons. I am always thriving to challenge each student just at the right level. |
